You’ll have good days, bad days, overwhelming days, too tired days, I’m awesome days, I can’t go on days – and every day you’ll still show up.
When I became a mom, nobody told me that one of the biggest struggles I would face was managing not only my emotions, but the emotions of my entire family. No matter how overwhelmed I felt, there was always somebody who needed more from me, and so that’s where all of my energy went.
I was spending so much time and energy helping everyone else that I had nothing left for myself.
I thought that’s the way it was SUPPOSED to be. That, as a mom, you just learned to deal with it.
Boundaries are essential
Truth? Learning to create boundaries is essential in thriving in motherhood. If this is a new area feelings of guilt, selfishness, or worthiness might creep in, but setting healthy boundaries is imperative to supporting emotional wellbeing, plus in establishing healthy boundaries, we are teaching our families the same benefits to support their emotional health. Setting yourself up for success is ultimately setting them up for success in life too. It’s a win win.
Through years of education, practice, professional and personal experiences, I work exclusively with other mom’s feeling the way I was feeling so that they can get out of the chaos and overwhelm and start showing up in a way they’re proud of.
Emotions
Emotions are a powerful response to how we experience the environment around us. Our brain processes various stimuli and then determines how to respond based on previous experiences and survival instincts. Emotions influence many areas of our wellbeing, especially our mental health. Being aware of our thoughts and emotions and how we respond to them is an important part of healthy living.
Through self-care and mindfulness we can rewire our brains to shift our emotions. Emotions are energy in motion so you have full control to raise your emotional expression, but this takes time learning how to process thoughts and feelings and discovering what replenishes our minds and bodies.
So what is self care?
Self-care is a means of replenishing and nourishing ourselves. It is a deliberate act that we do to take care of our emotional, mental and physical health. This action will look differently for everyone and is so often overlooked in it’s importance. It can be as simple as getting a quiet moment to take a shower, go for a walk, sit in silence, drinking a warm cup of tea or coffee, painting, diffusing or applying essential oils or slowly eating a favorite meal. It’s really up to you. When we care for ourselves we are able to show up as a more present mom to our family.
Art therapy for moms
The combination of art and oils is especially powerful for shifting our mindset. Art allows you to move thoughts and feelings out of your body and onto a piece of paper or into a sculpture allowing the creator to step back and remove themselves for deeper processing. The actual feelings of anger, sadness, and grief are emotions experienced by everyone, withholding these feelings and suppressing them can impact our physical and mental health, as well as relationships with others. Everyone has their own unique way to cope and express thoughts and emotions. Some do not express emotions, some act out in rage and anger, and others become anxious or sad. It’s important to learn how you process and release emotions and become aware of triggers that are impacting your emotional health.
Art is a beneficial way to release stress as studies show that after 45 minutes into the art making process our bodies begin to relax and welcome in all the feel good hormones. Hello, stress reduction! We can all use some of that. This release can help you to pivot feelings out of anger and fear and welcome in your more desired emotions, thus providing you with a healthy coping mechanism to help process and release thoughts and feelings.
Essential oils move energy allowing you to release stagnation and baggage holding you back. The essential oils break up the stagnation and shake it up to release new emotions for you to process allowing emotional growth to happen. It’s a beautiful combination.
I know the hardest thing sometimes is just getting started, which is why I put together my 5 best getting started tools into a new, free guide where I combine art, mindfulness and essential oils to help clear thoughts, energy and stress.
