MENTAL HEALTH DONATIONS IN NORTH DAKOTA

OpenMIND is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in North Dakota devoted to changing the stigma around suicide and mental health issues. We invest in proactively raising awareness about mental health and building a stronger local community. We focus a lot of our efforts on working with children, families, and educators.

We rely on generous mental health donations from individuals and organizations interested in supporting mental health nonprofits and charities. We also do our own fundraising during the year. Our feature event is the annual LeeWok Arts & Music Festival, held in September.

DONATE TO SUPPORT TEACHERS’ MENTAL HEALTH

In early 2020, we became aware of the urgent need to provide teachers and schools with mental health resources. We launched our Room To Breathe project – a project that focuses on taking care of the mental health of teachers who, in turn, have a direct impact in shaping the mental wellbeing of many, many young children. The project also gives us a doorway into the schools to provide further mental health awareness, mindfulness training, and other initiatives to the students.

In partnership with local schools, OpenMIND is creating spaces within these schools exclusively for teachers. The room provides an immersive, multi-sensory experience designed to decrease the physiological responses to stress.

Part of the experience involves teachers enjoying a few moments to themselves in a luxury massage chair, accompanied by guided meditations or soothing sounds, dim lighting, and a little peace and quiet while soaking in the aroma of essential oils, which are known for their calming properties.

The project is already showing significant results. The uptake has been immediate and sustained, and teachers are showing measured stress level reductions. Teachers have noted how they are able to respond to their students with far more empathy and with more healthy approaches after time in the room.

Demand for these rooms has taken off purely by word of mouth, but the ability to implement them across North Dakota relies heavily on donations for mental health and school funding – which is not always readily available, particularly in less well-off regions (ironically, often where teaching is most stressful). Each one of these rooms costs around $5,500.

Where do my donations go

Transparency and integrity are key to us. It’s important that you can trust that your donation to a mental health charity and to our nonprofit organization is put to good use.

The entire 100% of your donation goes to supporting mental health awareness and our activities in North Dakota. There are a number of initiatives that we are involved in, some of which include:

  • Working in local schools to promote mental health awareness, particularly equipping and training educators with mental health techniques, both for their own wellbeing and also for their students.
  • The Room To Breathe project.
  • Promoting mental health awareness online across social media.
  • Providing free online resources via our website.
  • Partnering with local organizations, such as  KX News, to promote mental health and mindfulness content.
  • Partnering with local professionals. We have a great relationship with Heidi Woods from Mindful You Mindful Me who runs mindfulness workshops and training sessions in local schools, equipping children and teachers with the internal resources to be mentally healthier and cope in life. We also work with Kayla Helenske from Expressive Journeys, who supports individuals moving forward and developing healthier relationships with themselves through holistic and creative processes.

Your donations for mental health enable us to continue with these initiatives, as well as pursue new opportunities.

how to donate to mental health awareness

You can make a secure, online donation to OpenMIND, a registered non-profit mental health organization, via our PayPal Account. Just click the button below and follow the prompts. Alternatively, contact us to arrange another method of donating. All donations are tax deductible in the US.

OpenMind is a non profit organization that is doing a great job of creating mental health awareness and mindfulness in our youth. My nephew committed suicide and we were devastated and shocked that none of his family or friends were aware of his state of mind. OpenMind is bringing the stigma of mental health to the forefront thru education, resources and LeeWok, an annual family festival that promotes mental health and awareness. I am so proud of the work that has been accomplished by this group.
