MENTAL HEALTH EVENTS IN DAKOTA
OpenMIND aims to change the stigma around depression, suicide, and other mental illnesses by participating in various events in the local communities in North Dakota. Each year we host the LeeWok Music & Arts Festival, in honor of our brother Lee who we lost to suicide, in an effort to raise funds to continue our work. Here are a few of the events we’ve been fortunate to be a part of:

LEEWOK adventure race Saturday, 11 September 2021
After a year on the couch it’s time to dust off those running shoes and get back out there! There’s no better trail and no better cause than the (4th) annual LeeWok Adventure Race race.
This year’s edition will be held out will be held out at Black Butte Adventures, ND on Saturday, September 11th, at 8:30am. It’s gonna be another fun morning with friends, families and of course the best dressed will win themselves a prize. Race options include the 5k or 10k.

LEEWOK FESTIVAL HONOURING THE MEMORY OF LEE
The LeeWok Festival is one of our highlights on the calendar year. It’s a time where friends and families from all over Minot, North Dakota can come together for a day of live music, entertainment, amazing food and a variety of mindfulness activities – especially for kids.
It’s a day to honour the memory of Lee by creating an environment where people from all ages and walks of life can talk openly about suicide and mental health.
On February 8, 2020 we had the privilege of partnering with Prairie Sky Breads in Minot, ND. The goal: Fight isolation, seasonal depression, and loneliness brought about by winter with a fun, family, friendly kids’ event!
This kids’ wellness activity was free and open to the public, and was held to the backdrop of aromas coming from PSB’s brand new bakery. There were art activities and a few mindfulness breaks facilitated by OpenMIND. This was a really fun event with great participation from local families and kids! Thanks to everyone who came down to join us!
